Refurbishment of the facades and redevelopment of the top floor of one of Rome’s most iconic hotels. The project entailed the creation of suites, wellness treatment rooms and a gym. These elements are modular to accommodate the clients’ specific needs, whereby suites can be joined together to create larger ones and the wellness rooms turned into private areas to be annexed to the suites.
The scheme pays tribute to the traditional Roman domus. The new areas are contained within a colonnade following the model of the Roman peristyle, which defines intimate internal courtyards providing an open space protected both from sight and from heat. The scheme’s modern interpretation of this classical configuration transforms the patios into a space opening onto the terrace via the colonnade, taking guests from the courtyard’s intimate introspection to the generous roof terrace with 360° views onto Rome.
